Iran, Germany to hold Indo-Persian confab

Iranian scholars will join their German counterparts to discuss Indo-Persian studies during a meeting in the Iranian capital city of Tehran.

The International Conference of Indo-Persian Studies will be held at the Shahidi Hall of Iran’s Academy of Persian Language and Literature in Tehran from February 19-20.

The event will be organized under the auspices of the Iranian academy and Germany’s University of Marburg.

The University of Marburg offers extensive study programs at its Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS) in the German town of Marburg. Iranian Studies is available as a Master of Arts program at the center.

The conference will consist of a number of speeches on the topic of Indo-Persian Studies at the opening ceremony on Sunday, February 19.

Speakers who plan to deliver keynote addresses include the head of Iran’s Academy of Persian Language and Literature, Gholam Ali Haddad  Adel; researcher, historian and academy member Fathollah Mojtabaee; professor of Iranian studies, expert in history and cultural identity of Iran and faculty member of Marburg University Christoph Werner; author, researcher and specialist in Islamic studies Eva Orthmann from the University of Bonn; and historian, researcher and author Mohammad Reza Nasiri.

Topics to be discussed include Persian language and literature, translation studies, history writing, hagiography, codicology, documentology, dating of editions, history of science, mysticism and Sufism, history of art and folklore.
